INTRODUCTION
Maruti Suzuki, the leading car manufacturer in the country, has announced plans to launch its inaugural electric vehicle, the EV, in the Indian market come March of the following year. Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the electric vehicle market is a significant milestone for the company and the Indian automotive industry as a whole. Rahul Bharti(the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki) stated that
“Our EV concept car has already been unveiled. It will be a high-specification SUV having a 550km range and a 60kWh battery.”
No information was disclosed by Bharti regarding the quantity of cars the company intends to manufacture.
PRICE EXPECTATION
The price of Maruti’s inaugural electric vehicle, eVX, has been a topic of much speculation and anticipation. While an official confirmation is yet to be made, there are indications that the car’s price tag will exceed Rs 10 lakh. This has only added to the excitement surrounding its release. Maruti, being one of the leading automobile manufacturers in India, has a reputation for producing affordable and reliable vehicles.
MANUFACTURING
Suzuki Motor’s Gujarat’s (SMG) Hansalpur facility, located approximately 90 km from Ahmedabad, will serve as the manufacturing hub for both the upcoming EV and its Toyota counterpart. These cutting-edge vehicles will be produced in this state-of-the-art facility, showcasing the commitment of Suzuki Motor to deliver high-quality automobiles to its customers.
With an annual operational capacity of 750,000 units, the plant has been functioning since 2017. It produces popular car models like the Baleno, Swift, DZire, and Fronx.
BUILT & EXPECTATION
Toyota’s 27PL skateboard platform will serve as the foundation for both the eVX and its Toyota counterpart. This innovative platform will provide a solid base for the construction of these vehicles, ensuring stability and durability.
The upcoming SUV is set to measure 4.3 meters in length and boasts a spacious cabin, thanks to its born-EV architecture.
